A few years ago, I had the chance at my job to start an advising board for donating and collecting money for poor countries.
A lot of people involved in projects joined the group. Some people who had joined told me about this great project in Cambodia, where they really do an amazingjob!
They have this foundation to help children who lived and (still live) at a garbage dump. Each morning garbage trucks arrive at the dump. And then the place becomes a struggle for life for the children to find food, and other things to survive. A lot of children also die in those battles, because they are pushed under the trucks.
When I started this board, I invited a founding member of this organisation for an interview, and was really blown away by his story.
Like for instance, they rescued this girl who was living at the dump. Taught her how to read and write and quickly realised that she quickly learned stuff.
So now, the girl is studying to become a doctor, determined to help the children once she has her degree in medicine.
Not always I really realize that there is so much poverty and misery in this world.
But I find it really inspiring to know that there are still some people left in this world, who stand up, and want to make this world a better place to live in.
The cool thing is, that they started the foundation because they were travelling Cambodia and saw the garbage dump and wanted to do something.
also this video of the children is really touching:
